Strut Your Mutt Los Angeles is Fun for Dogs and People Alike
This morning Xuma and I hit the road early to participate in the annual Strut Your Mutt, a walk to raise funds for Best Friends Animal Society. Xuma is very social – all dogs and people are potential friends, so it was especially fun for her because there are dogs, with their people, everywhere you turn, and all in the beautiful setting of Exposition Park. This year Best Friends hosted Strut Your Mutt in fourteen cities across the United States and had a goal of raising $3,000,000. They expected 2,000 walkers today.
The best thing about the walk is the dogs. Dogs, dogs, dogs! A young man skateboarding in the park expressed his surprised, “There are a lot of dogs!” Huge dogs, tiny dogs, even a Chinese Crested. Dogs waiting for forever homes particularly enjoyed time out of the shelter. Playful puppies inquired into everything, while some senior dogs are above it all. Bruno, a six month old kept Xuma entertained at the start line.
There were several vendors, including our friends from Metro Pet Spa, who bathe Xuma and Orson with luscious shampoos. Xuma enjoyed taste testing Instinct Raw Boost Mixers and Fetch ‘n Fillets chicken jerky from Pet Food Express. Los Angeles based Hiragana Pets offer unique and charming mugs, pillows, and shirts in a Japanese script. There was an agility demonstration, dog trainers, face painter and other activities. We also had the pleasure of chatting with Monica Krieger, Planned Giving Officer at Best Friends.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who hauled water, registered walkers, and cheered us on to the finish line. It was a good way to start the weekend. I look forward to walking again next year.
