SuperZoo Pet Convention
SuperZoo, a pet retail convention, recently wrapped its largest show to date in Las Vegas. It was my first year attending SuperZoo and it was fun. I met pet retailers who have innovative new products, cheered a friend who competed in the Rescue Rodeo grooming contest, attended interesting presentations, and met a few pets along the way.
Over the next weeks, I will showcase some products I enjoyed such as Shady Paws, which is a great sunshade for our pets. Also Oo Ma Loo is a company which provides jobs to 300 women in Turkey who hand-make colorful and fun cat and dog toys. Pioneer Pet’s water fountains, which circulates the water is currently being tested by my Mom’s cats, more to follow.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson—basketball legend and CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises—kicked off SuperZoo’s trade show with an inspiring keynote focusing on how he parlayed his skills and tenacity on the court into success in the business world.
SuperZoo also crowned winners in 18 grooming categories, with Ide Kyoko of Tokyo winning Rescue Rodeo, Victor Rosado of Puerto Rico winning the Best in Show award, and Catherine Opson of Dana Point, California winning the Best All Around Pet Stylist award. There were 145 registered Contestants and 226 dogs groomed over the three days of competition, with 15 countries represented and judges coming from five nations. I loved watching the Rescue Rodeo contest. All of the rescues were given much love and undivided attention during the contest and looked fabulous. Many of the dogs are adopted as a result. The rescue groups also receive donations for the dogs that place in the contest.
In addition, WPA announced the winner of its inaugural Show Us Your Good Works social media photo contest. HuggleHounds took home the honors for their program, Huggles for Heroes, which supports Warrior Canine Connection by donating a percentage of sales from selected products. They will have $1,000 donated in their name by WPA to the National Animal Interest Alliance. Congratulations to HuggleHounds.
SuperZoo was a great place to spend a few days surrounded by people who like pets as much as I do. I look forward to attending again next year.
