The Best Soft Dog Cone Alternative to the Plastic E-Collars
I pick up my dog at the veterinarian’s office and he is wearing the cone of shame. My heart sinks. I dislike the e-collars probably more than the dogs do. I understand the importance of protecting the injury or surgical site, but it seemed to me there has to be a better way. Well, now there is. Loving Embrace Collars are a great e-collar alternative to the hard plastic cones. Loving Embrace Collars are foam, covered with cloth. The collars are strong enough to stop your dog or cat from aggravating the injury, but yielding and soft for more comfort for your pet during the recovery.
Loving Embrace Collars are more comfortable for people as well — no more sharp edges scratching your skin. No more scarring the walls and the furniture. These cloth e-collars also minimize potential injury to your other pets, who may unwittingly get too close to convalescing pet.
Loving Embrace Collars are available in a variety of fun and colorful designs to match your pet’s personality. Orson is modelling the cute red monkey print.
I tried these soft dog cones on both Xuma and Orson. The XXL fit Orson well. He is the yellow lab about 75 lbs. The e-collar is easy to take on and off using Velcro strips to keep it secured. The Velcro strips also allow you to adjust the fit. You can thread your dog’s collar through attached loops to ensure the e-collar stays in place. Orson wore the Loving Embrace soft dog cone comfortably. He must have wondered what I was doing, since he has had the good fortunate of not needing one lately. The XXL was a bit big for Xuma; a Pitbull-mix weighing in at 55 pounds, her neck measurement was between the XXL and XL sizes. She would fit better in an XL.
The collar can be folded back for feeding. Orson could eat without folding it back. However, it is so easy to take on and off, that I would just take it off during mealtime and then put it back on. It was a bit stiff when I folded it, so it may take a bit of practice to get good at folding.
Wondering how to keep it clean? Orson is a slobber-head. When he wears a cone it gets grungy. No worries about the Loving Embrace Collar getting dirty, because it is machine washable. I threw it in the washing machine and laid it flat to dry. It held its shape and worked just fine after a wash.
These e-collars have been on the market since 2008. They were carefully researched and designed to find just the right materials. The key is the foam, which allows the collars to be thin, covered with cloth and more flexible, yet still sturdy. The time and research put into the development is evident in their final product, which I highly recommend. These e-collars are made in the USA, and come from the state of Colorado. They are very reasonably priced and can be ordered online. Overnight shipping is available for those emergencies. Click here for the Loving Embrace Collars website.
The only downside, which I personally have not experienced with any of our dogs or fosters; but I have heard of, is a dog that freaked by an e-collar that was not transparent, because it blocked the dog’s vision. In that case, the pet actually does better with the clear plastic. However, in my experience, that is the exception, not the rule. I would not let that stop me from trying the Loving Embrace Collar.
Loving Embrace Collars have made generous donations of e-collars to rescue organizations and will continue to support the rescue community. Embrace Pet Insurance and PetPlan Insurance covers the cost of these collars and more pet insurance companies are sure to do the same. The testimonial from Loving Family Animal Hospital sums it up nicely:
“Loving Embrace Collars are absolutely amazing! We’ve been offering them to our clients for over 4 years and have had 100% satisfaction. When given a choice, 75% to 80% of the time our owners pick an Embrace Collar for their pet. These collars are truly great.
They are soft and comfortable so the pets get used to wearing them more quickly. They are also very unique in the fact that you can roll them back, allowing the pet to eat easily. They are machine washable and durable so our clients don’t mind that they cost a little more than those hard plastic ones because they know it will last until the next time it is needed. And our clients LOVE getting to pick from a variety of prints and colors. It makes them feel involved in their pets care and helps take away some of the stress they experience when picking up their pet from surgery.”
